Tokyo born Karen Minami began dancing early at the age of 7 with Ikuko Kanemitsu Dance Company where she specialised in theatre and vintage jazz. Awarded the GrandPrix at Jazz Dance Art Association Competition 2007 for Jazz dance, Karen grew the confidence to experiment, changing styles to pursue her abilities in African dance. After moving to Australia in 2013, Karen initially began collaborating with traditional African dancers, proving her skills and touring with them as they performed demos around Australia to schools and international clients. One of the people she impressed was Afro Moses, one of Ghana’s most esteemed reggae performers who invited her to tour with him as they performed throughout Indonesia.
